The Friendship Garden Mural

My name is Sarah and for my Girl Scout Gold Award Project, I created a mural in the Valley Friendship Circle Garden. It’s origination was based upon Chanie and Rabbi Baitelman’s dream of creating a beautiful, welcoming, enjoyable and safe space for all ages and all abilities as well as their families and the greater community.

On the left side of the 63 foot long mural is the Valley Friendship logo surrounded by handprints that represent people of all ages in the Valley Friendship Circle community. Several spaces were saved in order to provide opportunities for new members of the community to be part of the lasting mural.

To the right of the Valley Friendship Circle logo is the Chabad of Studio City logo and Jewish symbols. The symbols represent different aspects of Jewish observance and tradition such as lighting of the Shabbat candles and a tzedakah box (charity, doing good in the world).

The rest of the mural is a beautiful rising sun above rolling green hills and water. The bright colors of the mural were chosen to create a fun and welcoming environment to make people feel happy.

The Valley Friendship Circle community and others that enjoy this backyard have already enjoyed memorable weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s and other special events in this beautiful communal space. I hope my project will continue to create memories in the future.
